Editing Services

As a believer in words to make a difference in the world, I have made it my job to work with them. Below I describe the editing services I offer through EVR Creative.

Editing

EVRy writer needs an editor.

Line editing

EVRy line matters. Line editing involves editing sentence by sentence (or line by line), keeping in mind the way language and writing style are used to communicate the underlying story. Line editing is one step before copyediting.

  • Suggestions for rearranging or deleting text to improve flow
  • Notes highlighting repetition or inconsistencies
  • Plain language substitutions, where appropriate
  • Edits to implement the 5 C’s: clear, concise, correct, consistent, compelling

Going through your edits, as hoped, has provided me with more understanding regarding flow and clarity…Thank you again, as your edits have contributed significantly to my journey to improve my writing.

Copyediting

EVRy word matters. When we read our own writing, our eyes see what they want to see, often correcting or overlooking small mistakes, so it’s vital to have that second pair of eyes. This is where copyediting comes in.

  • Corrections for spelling, punctuation, and grammar (e.g., to hyphen or not; semicolon or period; the their, they’re, there complex)
  • Edits to syntax (arrangement of words and phrases in a sentence) to make stronger, clearer sentences
  • Basic fact-checking
  • Reference formatting, if needed

I have worked with Emily for a number of years. She is an excellent copyeditor with lots of great ideas on how to improve the clarity of study materials. Specifically, she provided edits on education curriculum, scholarly manuscripts, project reports, and grant applications. She will be a great resource to anyone needing outstanding copyediting skills to improve the quality of their documents.
